Nora Fingscheidt’s “System Crasher”, post produced by Rotor Film, swept the 70th German Film Awards on Friday, April 24th.

The Weydemann Bros’ production, a film about a young girl and her wild quest for love, won a total of eight Lolas, including best film in gold, best directing, screenwriting, editing and sound.

Rotor Film’s re-recording mixer and creative lead Gregor Bonse held the acceptance speech for best sound, representing his team of production sound mixers Corinna Zink and Jonathan Schorr, as well as sound designers Dominik Leube and Oscar Stiebitz. He stressed the importance of flat hierarchies within sound teams, in which each collaborator directly serves the story. He thanked Fingscheidt for involving them from early on and for her remarkably audiovisual screenplay.

Rotor FIlm also contributed picture post services to the second big winner of the night.

“Berlin Alexanderplatz”, a modern adaptation of Alfred Döblin’s 1929 novel that follows an undocumented African immigrant’s struggle to survive in Berlin, won five Lolas, including best film in silver, best production design and cinematography. Colour grading was done by Wouter Suyderhoud as well as Rotor Film’s Petra Lisson.

Forced to rethink this year’s ceremony due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the German Film Academy created a new concept and instead of a traditional gala event produced a show tailored for television that proved uniquely spontaneous, innovative and entertaining.

Here is a list of all nominees and winners.
